The Ala. Education Directory provides a comprehensive directory of city and county school systems, listing names of Board members, superintendents, custodians of school funds, supervisors, and schools, including the name of the principal, the telephone number, and the grades taught. It also contains names and addresses of Board members and organizations of the Department as well as special, corrective, private, and denominational schools; junior, community, and technical colleges; state colleges and universities; private colleges and universities with teacher preparation programs; education organizations and committees; and departmental personnel phone lists. Earlier directories also list district agricultural schools and members of the State Text Book Commission and County High School Commission. The information in the directories varies over a period of time. The specialized directories list art educators, personnel in health, physical education, and recreation, guidance and counseling coordinators, counselors, test coordinators, library media specialists, music teachers, personnel in technical colleges, departmental personnel, facilities for the hearing impaired and exceptional children and youth, private schools, area vocational and vo-tec centers, and institutions offering courses approved for veterans. The directories document the Department's function of providing information about public schools and state supported colleges.
